A successful installation of a countertop basin

To install your bathroom basin effectively, follow these essential steps. Start by ensuring that the water supply is turned off before you begin any work.

Identifying the appropriate location in the bathroom

The bathroom washbasin has to be placed on a surface. The basin should be placed centrally and a pencil should be used to mark out the drain hole and the position of the mixer tap in relation to the basin.

Piercing the washbasin spot

The first task is to find the water outlet. This consists of drilling the spots marked with a pencil. A hole saw is essential for drilling.  Before drilling, it is important to align yourself with the marks so that the washbasin is in the correct position.  For a better installation of the countertop basin, make sure that the diameter of the hole is proportional to the diameter of the hole saw. A further hole must be drilled at the level of the tap, which must be taken into account in relation to the mixer tap chosen.

Installing the mixer

This involves attaching the hoses to the mixer. The hoses can be screwed on first and it must be ensured that they are well embedded in the surface. During the installation, attention should be paid to the placement of the drain. Usually the drain opens in the lower position and closes in the upper position. Next, the hoses must be inserted into the hole and the mixer tap must be mounted on its base, using a spanner to secure it. Do not forget to tie the base plate with the washers under the basin to ensure the stability of the mixer.

Positioning the basin

We have covered the details of the installation of the countertop basin. The actual mounting of a countertop basin can now be carried out.

  • Insert the silicone seal over the hole in the basin to prevent any kind of water leakage.
  • Place the countertop basin to be installed and fit the drain into the hole created in the top. Do not forget to place the seals properly to eliminate the risk of water overflow.
  • Now fix the drain so that the basin is stable and immobile. Tightening with your hands is enough to ensure that the installation is perfect.

Connecting the countertop basin

To ensure proper drainage, you need a siphon, a pipe and PVC adhesive. A test connection of the pipe with the siphon is essential for the installation of a countertop basin in the bathroom. This allows the length of the water ejection pipe to be adjusted to the height of the siphon. You have to assemble the whole and screw the ring and all fasteners. If the installation is successful, the PVC pipes can then be lightly sanded with corrosive sandpaper to remove excess glue between the male and female connections.

The installation of a countertop basin ends with the attachment of the siphon to the water overflow. Now you have to wait at least one hour for it to be completely dry. The water supply can then be re-established and the countertop basin checked for leaks. If any leaks are detected, the tightness of the joints should be checked in order to ensure a successful installation.

In addition to being an elegant and comfortable addiction to your bathroom, the countertop basin is easy to maintain. The installation process is a meticulous task, but once you have gathered the necessary materials, it can become enjoyable. Are you renovating or building your bathroom ?
